Building a sustainable future

Making a global impact through our North American operations.

In 2020, as part of Votorantim Cimentos, we take part in a global campaign to build a more sustainable future through commitments that we’re working to achieve by 2030. Read on to learn about how we are doing our part for the environment and to discover one of our sustainable alternatives to standard cement.

Reducing our environmental footprint
We, along with our industry, are working to reduce emissions and address climate change by executing several initiatives simultaneously. These initiatives include more alternative fuels; product innovations; carbon capture technologies; energy and efficiency improvements; recycling; and advancing energy-efficient buildings. It is only through a multi-faceted approach that we can reduce our environmental footprint and propel the industry forward toward decarbonisation. We are aligned with the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) commitments and Paris Agreement to delivery net-zero concrete by 2050.

PLC: a sustainable alternative and a smaller environmental footprint
Blended cements offer immense opportunities to lower the carbon footprint of our industry. One example is our Envirocem™ Portland Limestone Cement (PLC), a blended cement with a higher limestone content that performs like traditional Portland cement, with a carbon footprint that’s 10% lower, on average. Advancements in blended cements is one of the many ways our industry is contributing to a more sustainable future. That’s why all St Marys Cement plants are producing Envirocem as a proven, lower-carbon, renewable and sustainable solution.
